Great googly moogly!

Hey Tim. Guess what interplay is betting almost all of their company (75 MILLION Dollars) on? Yup, a Fallout MMO. It worked for Blizzard, they wagered 40 Million and basically remade their entire company. The Fallout games have always been a favorite of mine, and the lack of a Fallout MMO seems more than a little criminal. I hope they do well. I’d love to see a good sci-fi massive and no, I’m not playing Eve.

Honestly, Eve must be the most boring way to spend some time outside of worm farming. The graphics are better than progress quest, but the end result is the same. Not to say it wouldn’t be a great game to play while I’m running Scholo, but I’d be worried about the lag it might generate.

But I digress. Gimme my MMO with the SPECIAL system and I’ll rock out. The perk system will need a little bit of a revamp, the higher end stuff (sniper, slayer) would probably have to be toned down. And would they keep the action point system? I don’t think so. It would take too long to submit a turn on a raid boss if you are waiting for forty people (or so) to decide what their characters are doing.

Kinda like this idea I had for Disgaea, where you’d offload one or more characters to a PSP running a Disgaea variant (I would even go as far as to include it with the actual disc, just have an option to “install” from the Main Menu and just drop the app right on to the flash or mem stick) by going to some boat or caravan in the home screen then either using them in combat with other players on other PSPs, or Co-Op through sidescroller type levels (a la Ragnarok Battle Offline). Wow that’s a fanboy-ish little rant. Not only am I talking about Disgaea, but I’m bringing up odd little games based on other games.

I need some sort of reality based detox at the moment, I think.

In closing: FALLOUT MMO!!! WHOOOO!! WANT!

Still a work in progress…

Yup, still working on the back end of this site. Really I think I work more on the back end than the front. I won’t make the joke and I hereby forbid anybody else doing the same.

Ah hell, I don’t care.

Anyway. I’m still working on some back end stuff. Primarily I want to get this site better organized. There are a few things I do here that you could call sloppy, even if you wanted to be really nice to me. For starters there’s the cat-Misc category. That’s just unimpressive. I need to look at the nearly two-hundred of the three-hundred posts in it and shunt them into more descriptive categories. It only makes sense, I’d rather not have all my socks, pants, underpants and shirts together in one big drawer labeled ‘clothes,’ it would make finding stuff all the more difficult.

Then there’s the keywords. I spent quite a large amount of time adding mostly relevant keywords to each post I exported from MT again for organization purposes and now I find out that WordPress doesn’t actually have a spot for keywords. Or at least not one I can find. So I’ll need to go through and copy-paste the keywords from the export document into a custom field I make for each entry in WordPress. I’m not exactly sure how this would help, as I’m pretty sure that keywords entered like that wouldn’t really index with WordPress’s built in search function. Ah well, I’ll have to read up and see if anybody else used keywords, just to see if that would be worthwhile.

Also there is the matter of the extended entry hack I used for the “Links” sections. I’ll have to figure out how to make that work as well.

Then I need to reformat and import the old greymatter entries. Just to get all my posts stretching back to the inception of this web page.

Then it is just a matter of cleaning up formatting and spelling in all my old entries. Then one export and I’ve got a good SQL database of my life for the last few years. Ain’t continuity grand?

That was… Relaxing, I guess.

Yeah, so last week (12/11-12/17) I was on vacation. The week before… well, then I was feeling lazy. The vacation thing was pretty good, I guess. I got a lot of sleeping done. Other than that, not much happened.

Jason and I are watching House and enjoying the show. Sadly it may begin to change the way I talk to callers and I could possibly become more blunt. Between a fictional doc and the Dog Whisperer I may actually become blunt enough to need to look for another job. Hopefully NCR will leave the light on for me. However, they will have to pry this office from my cold, dead hands. I like the privacy even though it has no windows.

Also I’ve started collecting fossils. Something I’ve always wanted to do, honestly. When Kristi and I went to the local Gem and Mineral show, she bought me a rather large Trilobite. I got a little display case for it and set it up with a stand from Beckham’s Barn and there we go. Last week I bought a fossil fish whose Latin name escapes me at the moment. I’ll have to update with it later. I’d take digital pictures, but my 2 megapixel digital daguerreotype is more than a little embarrassing.

One thing I really wish I could have done more of over my break is spend time with Kristi. I mean we are (hopefully) going to be moving in together (*gasp* Living in SIN!!) soon, so we’ll have all the time in the world at that point. Ah well. Que sera sera, right?

On Syndication

So my Mom is doing some sort of Tech Challenge thing with her library, and is now subscribing to my rss feed. I don’t mind saying that’s pretty cool. Personally, if I was in charge of technical training for a business or group or whatnot I would have people doing more practical challenges than tests and lectures. I just learn better that way, so of course I project. I mean there will be whiners, but there always are when people are asked to do new things.

I am still working on this morning routine. I’ve almost got it down. I get up, exercise, shower then eat some Cap’n Crunch. Then I’m ready to face the day. Well, in theory anyway. It doesn’t help that all this week I’ve gotten up around noon or so. I don’t think it is effective breakfast when you are doing it at one in the afternoon. The thought is there though.

A Clear Winner

So yeah, this Wordpress/SQL thing is the bee’s knees. If you are using any other database or posting software, you should get on over here. I need to prune my database and proofread some old entries, but overall I’m very happy with the result. I still have a year or so of posts (some 150) that I need to re-edit and import, then export the resulting SQL database, nuke it from orbit on the webserver and then re-import. Just to shake the bugs off, mind you.

I can’t say that my upgrade was completely scientific though. I mean yes, Wordpress seems to have a smaller footprint and all that, but I think that the main winner here is the SQL. I mean that and the PHP (which I could have accomplished with MovableType) the death of page rebuilds is a thing of beauty.

And yes, I’m still hosting this on old Ninjasuperspy.net. I’ve had this domain for almost seven years now and I’m not likely to give it up anytime soon. If anything I’d end up as Ninjasuperspy.wordpress.com or something. Got to keep it in the family.

Well, a few more minor tweaks and then it is to work on the theme. Yeah I’m bringing back my old gray site look. Despite all the compliments I keep getting on this canned look, I’m going to make this work like the old site. I may tweak some things, but overall I was happy with how that one turned out.

Version 7.0

There you go, now we are using SQL and Wordpress. Isn’t that special? I think I lost Sandy’s comment telling me she has a blog now, so I’ll link to that. Sorry about that. And yes, as usual there are about 17 posts floating around in my head to let you guys know what I’ve been up to. I’ll publish those tomorrow or later today. Depends on how stuff goes at work.
