More Mobo Musings

Well, there we go. It is definately a Micronics W6-Li. And apparently it is a decent enough board for messing around with, even for informal server whatnots. And we should know more about its operating whatnots when i actually get that RAM on monday. Here’s hoping i get that CPU fan as well. The thing doesn’t beep rignt now, but then it wouldn’t without RAM, right? According to the BIOS post thing in the manual it doesn’t have a post code for “No RAM, biatch!” I think i may run down to Kinko’s with this PDF on a disk and get it printed and bound so i can flip through easier.

This is wierd though. The serial numbers do match the w6-li, but mine doesn’t have the onboard SCSI. It does have the opennings for it, the blanks where the chips and ports would go, but not the hardware itself… I wonder if that means that the above info is inaccurate. Hmmm, i’d hate to flash the BIOS with the wrong board’s updates…

Well, i can definately say that i like Movable Type better than Greymatter. It just gives the impression of having fewer security holes… There are really only two things i’d like it to be able to do. I’d like to restore the “Search Entries” block, and i’d like to make connected files as with Greymatter. I can’t seem to find either in the documentation, so i guess its off to find an external search appliance. As for the connected files, i’m sure i can take the bits i want to include in other files, tie them to external .html documents, and use server side includes, but that seems so kludgy.

So if you want to catch some good anime, try out “Now and Then, Here and There.” I’ll say that it is good, and elaborate on it sometime later.

Video Card complications.

So it seems that people either don’t make PCI video cards anymore, or they just don’t want you to see them. It took me a few hours today to get anything resembling a PCI Vid card that didn’t set me back $100. This one’s a generic card, no geforce or TNT or anything, just a standard vanilla graphics card. It ran me $10 from the bargin bin at the CompUSA. This brings the total up to a whopping $20 for the whole shebang. I also scored a little power supply (ATX) at work for absolutely nothing, and a pile of motherboard standoffs for the same price.

It doesn’t boot though, no beep codes even with no ram, but i think it just doesn’t like the pc speakers i’m presenting it with. I should get a PC Geiger one of these days.

Milestone 6!

Here we are, brand new and on Movable Type. Don’t try to go to the archives, they are a broken link right now, until i’ve got them taken care of. I’ll update this entry when i’ve got the comments form re-written to fit with the site-theme of greyness and all that, and then i’ll do the archives. Soon as those are done and a line is dropped here then I’ll have one more thing to cross off my list of stuff to do. Then getting that digital camera for the File Server will be all i’m left with.

There, the archives are done (almost no work, actually) and the comments are done. This is starting to look like a damned webpage!

Interesting sideline, i fed my hooker paragraph into the Multi-sensit engine (a form that proports to strain your text for emotional import, and give you a readout of what the text says about you, and the thing says i feel evil, distraught, and… happy?
